A full house at the ‘Ballam Arena’ (aka St Matthew) enjoyed a great night of music thanks to Rosie Calvert and Will Finn, a husband-and-wife folk duo from the North East.
Demand was such that we had to borrow a number of chairs from our good friends at St Michael … and there wasn’t an empty seat when the concert got underway. We are still finalising the takings, but safe to say that we will record a record profit.
Reaction to the super vocals and instrumentation (the steel pan was very popular), was very positive and it was especially pleasing to hear the comments of a number of people who were visiting our church for the first time.
Rosie and Will also paid tribute to the attentive audience and warm atmosphere and the charity concerts – which we launched six years ago – have certainly fulfilled our intention of providing an entertainment venue with high-level performances and a lovely community feel.
Thanks to everyone from across the Benefice and beyond for the support and help on the night … and a special mention to our anonymous sponsor who kindly donated £100.
Many people enquired ‘what’s next and when?’ Well, as yet, we have nothing sorted as far as entertainers, but chances it will be staged in early Spring.
