The “Roll of Honour” at St Matthew has certainly caught the imagination of our parishioners – and those from further afield – since we were approached for information by the War Memorials website.
And here, as promised and thanks to the research of volunteer Mike Coyle, is the most up-to-date information available on the brave men who served, and some who perished, during the Great War.
The prayer on the Roll of Honour, which hangs on a wall next to the altar, reads:
YOUR PRAYERS ARE ASKED FOR THOSE WHO HAVE GONE
TO SERVE OUR KING AND COUNTRY
BY LAND AND SEA
AND AIR.
