Guitar masterclass enthrals another full house!

A packed “Ballam Arena” enjoyed a musical masterclass at our latest charity concert.

Mike Kneafsey, a hugely talented singer/guitarist and songwriter, entertained with a wide range of songs across the many genres for over two hours.

But it was his craft as a musician, along with his engaging personality, that really stole the show. What a guitarist – at times it was as though there were three musicians on the stage!

Great too that Mike enjoyed the concert as much as the audience: “What a super venue and such lovely people,” he said. “Give me the chance to return and I’ll jump at it!”

As the concert fell on BBC Children in Need night we decided to make a donation to that very worthy cause.

We did so via the Paddy McGuinness Appeal, following the comedian’s sponsored bike race which had travelled through our area just a few days before. Did any of you spot him on the front at Lytham?

Thanks again to everyone involved both in the preparation for the concert and on the night itself … and a particular mention to those who helped avoid a potential disaster.
This was due to what can only be described as an unexpected electricity issue the day before.

The main lights in the church – sorry Arena! – blew after we had simply tried with the best of intentions to change a single light bulb!

However, a mixture of good contacts and specialist support meant that everything was able to proceed without further alarm. Phew!

Finally, on behalf of everyone at St Matthew, I wish all our friends across the benefice the happiest and most peaceful of festive seasons.
