All set for Queen’s Platinum Party

A celebration for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is set for St Matthew’s next month … reviving a host of happy memories.

Garden parties used to be a highlight of the Ballam social calendar, providing not only enjoyment for the villagers but also great financial support for the then school and the children there.

Indeed, money raised regularly covered the cost of the children’s annual Christmas party over many years.

Interestingly, a number of ladies who served on the Ballam Social Club committee back then are also involved in arranging the upcoming party, including Mary Ellison, Eileen Taylor and Joyce Whittle.

The committee members do have the benefit of history to call upon; a similar celebration was held for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee back in 2002, attracting an attendance for more than 70 people.

Plans are now well advanced for this year’s event on Friday June 3rd.

The party, which will start at 3pm, will take the form of Afternoon Tea with a buffet, drinks and music and a celebration toast to our Queen.

Anyone wishing to attend is most welcome and tickets (priced £5, free for children) are now available. The committee is asking that tickets are purchased well in advance to help with general planning.

Tickets can be obtained through the following numbers: 01253 737819 and 01772 684952.
